Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the IPL title for the first time by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 runs in the final of IPL 2025 played on 3 June 2025 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

RCB batted first and scored 190/9 in 20 overs, in response to which PBKS could only score 184/7 in 20 overs.
Virat Kohli (43 runs) and Krunal Pandya (2/17) played an important role in RCB’s victory. This victory was historic for RCB, as they got the IPL trophy for the first time after a long wait of 17 years since 2008.

RCB got off to a poor start when Phil Salt (16 runs, 9 balls) was dismissed early. Virat Kohli (43 runs, 35 balls, 3 fours) and Mayank Agarwal (24 runs, 18 balls) added 38 runs for the second wicket.
Captain Rajat Patidar (26 runs, 16 balls) and Liam Livingstone (25 runs, 15 balls) increased the run rate in the middle overs. Jitesh Sharma (24 runs, 10 balls) and Romario Shepherd (17 runs, 9 balls) scored quickly in the final overs, but regular wickets fell to restrict the score to 190/9.
For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh (3/40) and Kyle Jamieson (3/48) took three wickets each, while Yuzvendra Chahal (1/37), Azamtullah Umarzai (1/35), and Vyshak Vijaykumar (1/30) took one wicket each.

The early dismissal of skipper Shreyas Iyer (1 run, 2 balls) was a big blow. Josh Inglis (39 runs, 23 balls, 1 four, 4 sixes) and Shashank Singh (61* runs, 30 balls, 3 fours, 6 sixes) shared a 38-run stand for the fifth wicket but regular wickets fell as PBKS fell 6 runs short of the target.
For RCB, Krunal Pandya (2/17) was the most economical and effective bowler while Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38), Yash Dayal (1/18), Josh Hazlewood (1/54), and Romario Shepherd (1/30) picked up a wicket each.

Decisive moment of the match
The turning point of the match was the 10th over, when Krunal Pandya Shashank Singh dismissed Prabhsimran Singh (26) and Shreyas Iyer (1) in successive overs to reduce PBKS to 79/3. Yash Dayal then dismissed Azamtullah Umarzai (1) in the 17th over to leave PBKS at 145/7.
Shashank Singh’s unbeaten knock of 61* brought PBKS close to victory, but Josh Hazlewood gave away only 7 runs in the last over to help RCB win by 6 runs.
