A 13 years old boy Vaibhav Suryavanshi set a new record for the fastest century by an Indian in Under-19 Tests, achieving the feat against Australia Under-19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday. The Bihar-born cricketer smashed his hundred in just 58 balls during his maiden red-ball match for the India Under-19 team.
Vaibhav’s 58-ball century ranks second only to former England all-rounder Moeen Ali who scored a 56-ball hundred for England Under-19 in 2005. Vaibhav’s explosive knock included 14 boundaries and 4 sixes.
He was eventually run out for 104 off 62 balls as India delivered a strong response to Australia’s first-innings score of 293.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s batting style has drawn comparisons to established players such as Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan thanks to his distinctive bat swing and ability to play aggressive shots while airborne.
His innings showcased a variety of strokes, including a square drive, a pull over deep mid-wicket and a classic cover drive, underscoring his versatility and skill.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi first made headlines when he debuted for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy at age 12 becoming the youngest debutant in the tournament’s history surpassing legends Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh. He scored 31 runs in two first-class matches against Mumbai and Chhattisgarh in 2024.
Before his Ranji debut Suryavanshi Suryavanshi had already made a name for himself in age-group cricket. He represented the India B U-19 team in a Quadrangular series, amassing 177 runs in six innings, including two half-centuries.
He also impressed in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, finishing as the eighth-highest run-scorer with 393 runs from five matches at an average of 78.60.
Vaibhav’s cricket journey began at age nine under the guidance of his father Sanjeev Suryavanshi. His father’s passion for the sport coupled with Vaibhav’s dedication has propelled him to early success marking him as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents.
