Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan has been in great form lately making him a favorite among fans and experts. However there are concerns about his fitness. Some experts are suggesting it might be why he could lose his place in the team.
Suryakumar Yadav shared in an interview with Indian Express that Sarfaraz is working with a chef recommended by Rishabh Pant to improve his fitness ahead of the Test series against Australia.
“Sarfaraz is focusing on his fitness with the Indian team’s strength and conditioning coach, and Rishabh (Pant) has connected him with a chef who helps with his meals. The goal is for him to be in better shape by the time the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia starts. Fitness is essential in this sport especially as he gets older and his body changes. He is putting in a lot of effort now, and he will be fine in the future,” he said.
“His body type might make him look overweight, but if you challenge him to bat for 450 balls, score a double hundred, or even a triple hundred, he has the skills to do it. The team needs players to make big scores and deliver game-changing performances. I’ve never seen him skip practice, even on match days. If there’s a game, he gets up at 5 am to bat for an hour near his home before joining the team bus. After the game, he also goes to a nearby ground to practice again,” added the star Indian player.
After scoring his first Test century for India against New Zealand in Bengaluru Sarfaraz Khan expressed his joy saying it felt amazing to achieve this milestone.
Sarfaraz played a remarkable innings, scoring 150 runs off 195 balls with a strike rate of 76.92 hitting 18 fours and 3 sixes. Unfortunately, he was out in the 85th over of India’s second innings when Tim Southee dismissed him.
During the press conference, Sarfaraz stated that the final day of the Test would be challenging for the Kiwis because the pitch was deteriorating. He emphasized that the Indian team needed to take early wickets to secure a win in the first Test match of the series.
