The BCCI suddenly removed Abhishek Nayar from the post of assistant coach of Team India, and the surprising thing is that captain Rohit Sharma was not consulted even once in this regard.
Given the deep friendship between Rohit and Nayar, this news is considered quite shocking.
What is the whole matter?
Actually, after Team India’s defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, BCCI held Nayar responsible for this. Nayar was shown the way out due to poor performance in the Test series.
But the surprising thing is that the planning to remove Nayar had started before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, in which Rohit made India the champion. Still, the BCCI sidelined Nayar by appointing Sitanshu Kotak as the batting coach.
According to reports, Rohit’s consent was taken to include Nayar in the support staff, but nothing was asked of him before removing him. Rohit did not like this at all.
Recently, after playing a brilliant innings of 76 runs against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, Rohit showed his friendship by posting a thank you post for Nayar on Instagram. It is clear that Rohit is not happy with this decision.
Why Gambhir also remained silent?
It is reported that head coach Gautam Gambhir did not say a single word in favor of Nayar. His whole effort was to keep Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel in the team.
According to BCCI sources, some senior players were upset with Nayar’s presence in the dressing room, after which this decision was taken.
Now Nayar is seen as an assistant coach with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In IPL 2025, KKR, captained by Ajinkya Rahane, is at the bottom of the tournament. Nayar now has the big responsibility of taking the team to the playoffs.
