So, fans get ready, because on October 19, 2025, both these legends will take the field in the ODI series against Australia.

When and where to see their return?
- First ODI: October 19, 2025, Perth
- Second ODI: October 23, 2025, Adelaide
- Third ODI: October 25, 2025, Sydney
This series is special as it will be the first step in India’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
TOI Sports Desk said:
BCCI wants senior players like Virat and Rohit to strengthen the team along with young talent.
“Virat and Rohit are expected to return to international cricket in the three-match ODI series against Australia this October,”
Why is this return so special?
Virat and Rohit quit T20 cricket after the 2024 T20 World Cup last year. They also retired from Test cricket.
Now both of them will play only ODIs, which has made their presence even more valuable. Their return to Australia will also be emotional, as this is where they played their last Tests.
“Their return in Australia is emotionally significant, as it was the stage for their final Test matches,”
Both are expected to lead in this series. The BCCI will check their fitness and form, but their experience is invaluable for the 2027 World Cup.
After this, India will play many more ODI series, like South Africa (November-December 2025), New Zealand (January 2026), and England (July 2026).
Among these too, Virat and Rohit’s playing is almost certain, if fitness and form support.
Will these stars be seen in the 2027 World Cup?
The 2027 ODI World Cup will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. At that time Rohit will be 40 and Virat will be 38. Will these two play till then? This is a big question.
But fans are hopeful that if fitness and form remain, then these two can rock the World Cup for the last time.
