The 2025 tour of England is no less than a big test for India’s new Test team captain Shubman Gill. Gill will lead the Test team for the first time in the five-Test series starting on June 20.
But former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla has made a big statement ahead of this tour, which has caught everyone’s attention.

Chawla said that Gill’s team lacks international experience, due to which the challenge against England can be big.
‘Lack of experience, but confidence..’ Chawla’s estimate
Piyush Chawla, who recently attended Rinku Singh’s engagement ceremony in Lucknow, while talking to the media said,
“These boys are not very experienced at the international level, but they have played a lot of cricket. They know how to play in difficult situations. I am confident that things will get better.”
Chawla’s statement is both a warning and encouragement for the team led by Gill.
This England tour of India is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27. The first Test of the series will be played on June 20 in Leeds, the second on July 2 in Birmingham, the third on July 10 in Lord’s, the fourth on July 23 in Manchester and the last Test on July 31 at the Oval.
But this time Team India has suffered a major setback, as veterans like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin have retired from Test cricket.
How big responsibility on new faces
Virat and Rohit retired in May 2025, while Ashwin said goodbye to cricket in the middle of the series against Australia in 2024-25.
In such a situation, under the captaincy of Gill, players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah will have a big responsibility.
These players may be experienced, but it will not be easy to face Ben Stokes’ strong team on the difficult pitches of England.
Chawla wishes Rinku Singh on his engagement
Chawla also spoke on Rinku Singh’s engagement and said, “My best wishes to Rinku and his fiancée.”
Rinku, who has been performing brilliantly for India in T20, recently got engaged to Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj.
Former cricketer Praveen Kumar also attended the ceremony and congratulated Rinku.
