Former England captain Michael Vaughan has made a big claim, he believes that South Africa is going to win the 2027 ODI World Cup.

He said this when South Africa performed brilliantly in the ODI series against England.
Vaughan posted on X and wrote, “South Africa to win the World Cup in 2027 me thinks …
This statement came when South Africa defeated England in the second ODI played at Lord’s.
Superstar Breetzke’s charisma
In this series, everyone’s eyes were on 26-year-old opener Matthew Breetzke. This young player played a brilliant innings of 85 runs at Lord’s and created history.
He became the first batsman to start his career in ODI cricket with five consecutive half-centuries or more.
Breetzke hit a half-century in just 57 balls, which included five fours and three sixes. His innings took South Africa from a difficult situation of 93/3 to a score of 330/8.
His 147-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs (58 runs) gave sleepless nights to the England bowlers.
England’s losing streak
In the first ODI too, South Africa had bowled out England for just 131 runs at Headingley to win by seven wickets. Keshav Maharaj (4/22) and Wiaan Mulder (3/33) sent the England batsmen to the pavilion in just 21 overs.
South Africa’s dominance is clearly visible in this series, and this is the reason why legends like Vaughan are praising them.
2027 World Cup hopes
This prediction of Vaughan is no small matter. The 2027 World Cup is scheduled to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The Proteas team will get the advantage of home grounds in this tournament.
The mix of new players like Breetzke and experienced players makes South Africa a strong contender.
Brietzke has so far scored 463 runs in five ODIs at an average of 92.6, including one century and four half-centuries.
