Thousands of fans gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to celebrate Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory, but this happy atmosphere turned into mourning in a moment.

At least 11 people lost their lives and more than 33 were injured in the horrific stampede on Wednesday.
This accident shook everyone. The BCCI broke its silence on this and called it “completely shocking”.
Statement of BCCI secretary and vice-presiden
RCB won its first IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad on Tuesday after a long wait of 18 years.
A crowd of fans gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate this victory. But the crowd was so huge that it became difficult for the police to control it. The situation kept deteriorating and a stampede broke out. BCCI
Secretary Devjit Saikia said, “This incident is embarrassing for us. There was a festive atmosphere, but there was a huge security lapse. We stand with the families of the deceased and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Saikia also said that such big events should have strict protocols for security and law and order.
He gave the example of last year’s T20 World Cup victory celebrations in Mumbai, where the BCCI, in collaboration with the local administration, managed everything well.
But this did not happen in Bengaluru. “Perhaps this event was planned in a hurry, which led to this tragedy,” Saikia lamented.
On the stampede during RCB’s victory celebrations in Bengaluru, BCCI vice-president and Congress MP Rajeev Shukla says,
“This can happen in any state and the ruling party should not be blamed for it. It should not be politicised.”
What did the fans say after this accident?
An injured fan narrated his ordeal, which was heart-wrenching.
Talking to cricket.com, he said, “I was buried under 20 people. My leg is injured, I am unable to walk. It was very dangerous. I somehow survived, but many people around me fainted.”
He appealed to other fans not to go to such places.
The BCCI said that after the IPL is over, they do not have direct responsibility, but now they will consider making guidelines for such celebrations in future in collaboration with the franchises.
Sakia said, “We have to think now that such a tragedy does not happen again.”
RCB’s victory celebration should have been memorable for the fans, but this accident became a black spot.
This incident reminds us that safety should not be ignored in the excitement of celebration.
