Shubman Gill’s name is on every cricket fan’s lips these days.
After giving a stellar performance in the Test series against England, this young star is now going to take over the captaincy of North Zone in the Duleep Trophy.

This tournament, starting in Bengaluru from August 28, is a new challenge for Gill, and cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has called it a big boost.
Gill scored 754 runs in the England series at an average of 75.4, including four centuries. This was his first series as Test captain, and now he is making a comeback to domestic cricket.
The team has fast bowlers like Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, who will make the match exciting. But Gill’s decision that he will play instead of resting is an inspiration for the team.
Big Boost for Domestic Crickert
Sunil Gavaskar has written in Sportstar, and his words impressed everyone.
He praised the BCCI for prioritising domestic cricket by skipping the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.
Gavaskar said: “It was good to see that the BCCI resisted the temptation of sending a team for the white-ball series in Sri Lanka this month after the Bangladesh tour was postponed to next year.”
Then he talked about Gill’s captaincy
“By doing so, the BCCI has prioritised domestic cricket as it means that now most, if not all, top players will be available to play in the upcoming Duleep Trophy tournament.
Shubman Gill captaining the North Zone team is a massive boost for the tournament.”
Gavaskar praised Gill’s commitment and wrote:
“By making himself available for the tournament, the Indian captain is sending the right signals to the other members of the team.
It would have been understandable if after the gruelling tour where he played five Test matches in little over six weeks, he had opted to rest.”
Gavaskar also supported the fast bowlers’ rest,
“It is good that the pacers are not playing as the unusual heat in England due to global warming must have drained their energies after bowling consistently throughout the series.”
The Asia Cup is starting on September 9, so if Gill gets a call in the national team, there could be a change in the team.
But for now, Gill’s entry has added to the excitement of the Duleep Trophy. This tournament is returning to the traditional format, and fans are excited because of stars like Gill.
Gill has captained 10 first class matches, but handling a regional team will be a new thing.
