Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024: Suryakumar Yadav set to back in Mumbai

In fact, after a brilliant performance against South Africa recently, Surya is now all set to make a comeback in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024.

Confirming this, Gaurav Gupta, a journalist with The Times of India, recently revealed that Suryakumar Yadav will join the Mumbai squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy match against Services in Hyderabad on December 3.

Gaurav Gupta, a journalist with the Times of India, wrote on his social media

“#bwrecking India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav will join the Mumbai team for the match against Services in Hyderabad on Tuesday in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy; Sky did not participate in the first league matches due to a personal problem.”

Suryakumar Yadav was bought by Mumbai Indians for 16.35 crore for IPL 2025. He has been retained as the second-highest paid cricketer in the squad, while Jasprit Bumrah is the highest paid cricketer, who was retained for ₹18 crore.

The Mumbai batsman was last seen in action in the four-match T20I series against South Africa where he showed his class.

Despite the absence of key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Indian team proved its strength by defeating the Proteas 3-1. Suryakumar himself also showcased his potential, scoring 26 runs in three innings at an average of 8.67 and a strike rate of 86.67.

In this context, a renowned cricket commentator said, “He is not just a batsman, but a complete spectacle.

However, Shreyas Iyer is currently leading the Mumbai team, and the team has won two of their first three league stage matches in the tournament so far. However, they suffered a 43-run defeat in their recent match against Kerala, where they failed to chase down a mammoth target of 235 runs.

“Every defeat is a new beginning,” said Shreyas Iyer in an interview, who tried to keep the morale of the team intact.

So now it has to be seen whether they will take their team to new heights? Time will tell, but one thing is for sure – Suryakumar Yadav’s fans are absolutely excited.
