India’s warm-up match against South Africa turned into a nightmare scenario. A fast bowler injured his knee badly during the game on Wednesday night. He hobbled off the field after bowling just one over at DY Patil Stadium.

The defending champions won the match by 30 runs eventually. India posted 240 for 6 while South Africa managed 210 for 7. But that victory came at a potentially massive cost right before the tournament.
India opens their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against the USA on February 8. The match happens at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in just a few days. Losing a key bowler now creates serious team balance problems suddenly.
Harshit Rana’s Injury Scare
The Fast Bowler Injured turned out to be Harshit Rana specifically. He gave away 16 runs in his only over bowled. Rana aborted his run-up twice before finally stopping mid-match completely.
His knee clearly troubled him from the very start. Teammates watched him limp off the field holding that injured knee. Nobody from BCCI has provided any official fitness update yet unfortunately.
Harshit Rana brings valuable skills beyond just fast bowling alone. His lower-order batting provides crucial depth to India’s T20 World Cup 2026 lineup. Losing him would hurt the team’s balance across both departments badly.
Injury Worries Keep Mounting
Washington Sundar already sits out with a rib injury. He picked up that problem during the ODI series against New Zealand. Sundar stays in the squad but can’t play any matches right now.
Tilak Varma just recovered from abdominal surgery last month thankfully. He proved his fitness by smashing 45 runs off 19 balls. Three fours and multiple sixes showed he’s completely back to form.
The T20 World Cup 2026 doesn’t need defending champions limping into matches injured. India’s medical team has its hands full managing these fitness issues.
Warm-Up Match Highlights
Ishan Kishan absolutely destroyed South African bowling early on brilliantly. He smashed 53 runs off just 20 balls before retiring out. Abhishek Sharma made 24 off 18 balls and also retired out.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav used nine different bowlers during the match strategically. Part-timers Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma even bowled some overs. Jasprit Bumrah didn’t take the field at all for rest purposes.
