The Australian spinner, Nathan Lyon expressed his team’s desperate desire to win the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 against the Indian cricket team.
It has been almost a decade since the Australian side last lifted the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. When India toured Australia in the 2014-15 series, the Aussies won the four-match series 2-0.
Since then, India has defeated Australia in four consecutive test series. India won two successive BGT series (2018-19 and 2020-21) in Australia. Last year, the Australian side toured India in hopes of taking revenge but suffered a crushing 2-1 series defeat against the Indian cricket team.
The upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy will be played between November 2024 and January 2025. For the first time since the 1991-92 series, both nations will fight in a five-match test series.
Lyon’s extreme hunger to turn things around
The off-spinner Lyon said that he is eager to turn things around when Australia host India for the five-match test series later this year. Lyon further added that the Indian cricket team is a really challenging side, but the Australias are determined to get the trophy back.
“It’s been ten years of unfinished business, it’s been a long time, and I know we’re extremely hungry to turn things around especially here at home. Don’t get me wrong, India is an absolute superstar side and extremely challenging but I’m extremely hungry to turn things around and make sure we get that trophy back,” Nathan Lyon was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“Feel like we are a different team to a couple of years ago, we are on a journey of becoming a great Australian cricket team. We’re definitely not there but we are along that journey and have been playing some decent cricket,” Lyon added.
