India’s captain Rohit Sharma after losing in Bengaluru, said his team knows how to recover from tough situations. Now he is planning to do better in the next Test match against New Zealand.
He mentioned that he isn’t one to talk much after games and his players understand their positions, the team’s situation, and what is expected of them.
Captain Rohit Sharma was firm in his comments stating that anyone who gets a chance must try to make a difference for the team. He noted how Shubman Gill’s unfortunate absence gave Sarfaraz an opportunity and he did well.
“I am not a person who talks a lot after matches. These players know where they stand. They know the situation of the team. I am not going to say anything different. Anyone who gets an opportunity will have to try and make an impact. It’s always nice to have players waiting. It was unfortunate that Shubman missed the game, but Sarfaraz took this chance,” said Rohit Sharma in the post-match press conference.
India was bowled out for their lowest score ever at home, just 46 runs, by New Zealand in the first innings, leading to New Zealand’s first Test win in India since 1988. Early on, the Black Caps showed their strength, scoring 402 runs before bowling India out again in the second innings for 462.
Despite early pressure from Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, New Zealand secured the victory on the last day, needing only 107 runs to win. In the first innings, New Zealand’s bowlers led by Matt Henry and William O’Rourke, dominated, leaving the Indian batters struggling.
On the last day India’s bowlers, especially Bumrah, tried to fight back by taking out Tom Latham for a duck and putting pressure on New Zealand. However Rachin Ravindra and Will Young handled the pressure well to help lead the Black Caps to a historic win.
