The third ODI in Sydney on October 25th brought a major setback for Shreyas Iyer.
Shreyas Iyer ran to backward point and took a brilliant catch from Alex Carey, but dived, injuring his stomach and left rib.

At first, it was thought to be a minor bruise, but scans revealed a ruptured spleen and internal bleeding.
He was immediately rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital. He remained critical for a few hours, his blood pressure dropping. Doctors then stopped the bleeding with a non-surgical procedure.

The BCCI issued a statement on October 27th
“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25th, 2025.
He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen.”

Cricketer Shreyas Iyer is now completely stable and has been released from the ICU.
Iyer’s family also supported him throughout this incident. His sister Shrestha arrived in Sydney on October 31. Iyer also began receiving visits from friends.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav provided an update at a press conference on October 28:
“He’s recovering well. Replying to us on the phone means he is doing absolutely fine. He’ll be monitored for the next few days, but nothing to be worried about.”
Shreyas Iyer shared his feelings on Instagram on October 29, writing:
“I’m currently in the recovery process and getting better every passing day.
I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received – it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.”

Today’s news from cricketer Shreyas Iyer is that he is talking to friends and rehab has begun. Shreyas Iyer is preparing for a comeback for PBKS in IPL 2025. The feeling of recovery is very positive.
On October 31, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia told TOI that Iyer had been shifted from the ICU to his room, and the doctors were completely satisfied.
“His injury was very severe, but he has recovered and is out of danger, which is why he was shifted from the ICU to his room in the hospital yesterday.”

Scans confirmed that the bleeding had completely stopped. Full recovery will take 6-12 weeks, so he may miss the South Africa ODI series (starting November 30).
Rumors of kidney damage spread on social media, but BCCI and medical reports clearly indicate that there was no kidney damage.
The main problem was with the spleen. There is no evidence of kidney damage; only routine checkups are being conducted.
