According to the reports, the ICC may ask the UAE to host the Women’s T20 World Cup after India declined the opportunity. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is looking at the UAE as a potential alternative venue for the Women’s T20 World Cup.
This decision is taken after India refuses to host the event. Bangladesh was originally scheduled to host the tournament from October 3-20, but as we know what’s the situation there, the event will likely move to UAE. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requested additional time to respond to the ICC, as per reports.
Is BCB about to lose its hosting rights for the Women’s T20 World Cup?
As per Cricbuzz, the BCB has requested a five-day extension to reply to the ICC. An online meeting of the directors is set for August 20, when the decision regarding the Women’s T20 World Cup is expected to be made. This timeline will coincide with the BCB’s five-day request if granted.
The BCB has said that it has contacted the government to seek security assurances for holding the event. They remain determined to keep the hosting rights for the World Cup. The country is also planning to reach out to the UN for help.
India Rejected The Offer To Host The Women’s T20 World Cup
Meanwhile, India has rejected the ICC’s request to host the T20 World Cup. It is understood that the ICC is likely to make the final decision on August 20. India’s withdrawal as hosts leaves Sri Lanka and the UAE as the potential alternatives for the tournament.
The event will likely be hosted in UAE, however, the ICC is also looking at how things unfold in Bangladesh. If BCB could make the arrangements then there will be no need to change the venue.
“They [ICC] have asked us if we would conduct the World Cup. I have categorically said no,” Shah informed Times of India. “We’re in the monsoon season, and on top of that, we will host the Women’s ODI World Cup next year. I don’t want to send any signals that I want to hold consecutive World Cups.”
