Mumbai Indians (MI) once again showed their flair and won their second WPL title by defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by 8 runs in a thrilling final played at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday.
While there was celebration on the face of the winning team, the eyes of the losing Delhi players were filled with tears.

The hero of the match was Harmanpreet Kaur, who played a captaincy innings and scored a quick 66 runs in 44 balls and took her team to a strong score of 149/7. She was also adjudged the Player of the Match for this brilliant performance.
The thrill of the last over was interesting
The most exciting moment of the match came in the last over, when Nat Sciver-Brunt defended 14 runs to give MI the win. The English bowler took 3 important wickets for 30 runs in the entire match, including the wicket of Marizanne Kapp.
After MI’s victory, there was a flood of emotions in the stadium. Team owner Nita Ambani ran onto the field and hugged Harmanpreet and Sciver-Brunt.

On the other hand, the pain of the players of Delhi Capitals was worth seeing. The grief of losing just a few steps away from victory was not tolerated by South African star Marizanne Kapp, who broke down in tears on the field itself. Kapp had scored a stormy 40 runs off 26 balls and brought her team close to victory, but lost at the last turn.
Apart from Kapp, only Jemima Rodrigues (30 runs) and Nikki Prasad (25* runs) were able to score big for Delhi, while half of the team’s batsmen were out in single digits.
Apart from Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr also bowled brilliantly for MI and took 2 wickets for 25 runs, restricting DC to 141/9 in 20 overs.
This is the third consecutive time that Delhi Capitals have lost in the final despite performing well in the points table.
With this win, Mumbai Indians won the prize money of Rs 6 crore, while DC got Rs 3 crore as runner-up.
This match filled with Mumbai’s celebrations and Delhi’s tears brought a great ending to WPL 2025, which cricket fans will remember for a long time.
