During the 12th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2024) the West Indian fast bowler Alzarri Joseph engaged in a heated discussion with the umpire. Playing for the Saint Lucia Kings, Joseph expressed his dissatisfaction with a decision made by the on-field umpire during the Trinbago Knight Riders’ innings.
The Knight Riders chose to field first after winning the toss in St. Lucia on September 11. Openers Faf du Plessis and Johnson Charles managed to give a solid start by scoring 40 runs in just four overs.
However, they quickly lost wickets in succession, which diminished their momentum in the match. A vital partnership of 80 runs off 58 balls for the fourth wicket was established between Roston Chase and Bhanuka Rajapaksa.
Chase emerged as the top scorer for the Kings with an unbeaten 56 runs from 40 balls, including three sixes and two fours. Sunil Narine and Waqar Salamkheil each took two wickets, effectively restricting the Kings to a total of 187-6.
In response the Knight Riders lost Sunil Narine in the second over. Nevertheless, they quickly gained momentum thanks to explosive batting from Jason Roy and Shaqkere Parris.
Joseph bowled the fourth over of the second innings, conceding 15 runs in his first over of the match. The right-arm fast bowler struggled with control, giving away five runs from a wide.
He attempted to bowl a bouncer to Shaqkere Parris, but it sailed over Parris’s head and past the wicketkeeper, resulting in five runs to the opposition’s total as the ball reached the boundary.
Joseph’s frustration was evident as he animatedly questioned the umpire while returning to his mark. His irritation persisted even after the over concluded. Here’s the video:
The Knight Riders successfully chased down the target with five balls to spare with Shaqkere Parris scoring 57 runs off 33 balls, which included six sixes and one four.
Kieron Pollard finished the game with an unbeaten 52 runs from just 19 balls, including seven sixes. For the Kings, Noor Ahmad and Matthew Forde each took two wickets.
