BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia met PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in Dubai recently. They discussed the Asia Cup trophy controversy privately during ICC meetings. Both cricket boards want to solve this issue quickly now.

Friendly Talks at ICC Meetings
The Asia Cup trophy row has created problems between the boards. Saikia and Naqvi sat down for an informal discussion together. ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khawaja helped arrange this important meeting.
Saikia said the conversation went smoothly between both officials. They talked in a friendly manner about finding solutions. No official agenda item existed for this trophy dispute though.
“We had an informal meeting with PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi. Since it wasn’t part of the official agenda, ICC arranged a discussion. We are thankful to the ICC for making the effort in resolving the issue.
“Both parties had a cordial discussion and have agreed to resolve the matter at the earliest. The ice has been broken. We had a series of meetings in the last few days, and a lot of important matters were discussed at length,” Saikia said.
The meeting showed both sides want peace over this matter. Cricket diplomacy works best through private talks like these. Public arguments only make things worse for everyone involved.

No Special Committee Needed
Reports suggest no special committee will form for this dispute. Saikia and Naqvi will propose solutions to each other directly. This approach saves time and keeps discussions simple between boards.
Both officials will exchange ideas in the coming days. They prefer solving this matter without involving more people. Direct communication often works better than formal committee meetings anyway.
The controversy started after the 2025 Asia Cup final ended. India won the tournament but declined to accept the trophy. Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy with him after this incident.
Quick Resolution Expected Soon
Saikia expressed optimism about finding a solution very soon. Both parties will explore various options available to them. The trophy belongs to Asian cricket and needs proper handling.

The private discussion marks a positive step forward, finally. Saikia and Naqvi showed maturity by talking directly together. An amicable solution will hopefully come out of these discussions. Asian cricket needs both boards working together for growth.
