Cricket fans are really upset about something that happened last week. The Indian cricket team picked their players for England Tests. But one good player got left out of the team, Shreyas Iyer’s test exclusion hocked everyone.
Shreyas Iyer played well for India and did a great job. He hits lots of runs and helps the team win matches. But the team selectors did not pick him for the England tour.
Iyer has been hitting cricket balls really well this year in many games. He played Champions Trophy and scored the most runs for India. His bat made 243 runs in five games which was fantastic.

He also played Ranji Trophy matches for his home team Mumbai recently. Iyer got 480 runs in seven times at bat there. He made two big hundreds and played like a champion.
In IPL games, Iyer was the captain of the Punjab Kings team. He scored 514 runs and hit the ball very hard. His team reached the playoffs because he played so well.
Coach Gambhir Does Not Want to Talk About It
News reporters asked coach Gautam Gambhir why Iyer got dropped from the squad. Gambhir looked annoyed and gave a quick answer to them. He said, “I am not a selector”.
Many people think Gambhir should have explained the decision better to fans. Cricket lovers want honest answers about why good players get left out. The coach seemed upset that reporters kept asking him questions.
The chief selector Ajit Agarkar talked to reporters about this later. He said Iyer plays cricket very well and everyone knows that. But Agarkar thinks the team has too many good batsmen right now.
“We just don’t have space for him right now,” Agarkar told everyone. He said picking the team is really hard work. Sometimes great players have to wait their turn to play again.
Big Changes Coming to India’s Cricket Team
Selectors made lots of changes for the England tour next month. Young Shubman Gill will be the new captain instead of older players. Rishabh Pant will help him as the vice-captain.
