Indian fast bowler Akash Deep is known for his bowling skills. But Akash is also a capable batter and can land a few lusty blows with the bat. When he came to bat in India’s first innings at Chennai, he was expected to score some quick runs.
However, during the Chennai Test, something else caught attention besides his batting and bowling that made Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir burst out in laughter in the Indian dressing room.
Akash Deep was struck by a poor throw from Hasan Mahmud. Just a few balls before his dismissal, Akash was hit by a wayward throw from the Bangladesh quick. He was seen clutching his lower back and immediately called for medical attention.
Meanwhile, Hasan Mahmud approached him to apologize. Shakib Al Hasan, who was also present, was seen laughing and enjoying the light moment alongside the two.
While Akash Deep was being tended to by the physios, the Indian dugout erupted in laughter after Virat Kohli commented. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, and Shubman Gill were all sitting together sharing a laugh.
India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar was also in the dressing room with the players, and he too couldn’t contain his laughter. Meanwhile in another snapshot, Jasprit Bumrah was seen enjoying the lighthearted moment.
This wasn’t the first instance of an Indian batter being struck by a wild throw from a Bangladesh fielder in this innings. On Day 1, Rishabh Pant was similarly struck and ended up having an argument with the opposition wicketkeeper, Litton Das.
On the match front, India posted 376 in their first innings, thanks to a magnificent century from Ravichandran Ashwin, along with valuable fifties from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja. Hasan Mahmud recorded a five-wicket haul in a brilliant bowling performance.
