Recently in a CPL match the allrounder Kyle Mayers showed off his amazing fielding skills by taking an exceptional catch. It was the fifth match of the CPL 2024 between St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and St. Lucia Kings.
In the second ball of the fourth over while St. Lucia Kings were batting, their captain Faf du Plessis faced fast bowler Anrich Nortje. He tried to hit the ball over midwicket but instead, it hit the upper part of his bat and flew over mid-on.
Kyle Mayers, positioned at mid-on, sprinted back and made a stunning catch just over his right shoulder, getting Faf du Plessis out for only 2 runs. This was a fantastic display of athleticism from the West Indies allrounder.
St. Lucia Kings won the toss and chose to field first. Mayers came in at number 3, he teamed up with Evin Lewis. Both batters aggressively attacked the bowlers, with only Noor Ahmad being able to make an impact.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots finished at 201-3 after 20 overs. Evin Lewis scored a fantastic century finishing with 100 runs off 54 balls, hitting 7 fours and 9 sixes, while Mayers got out in the final over.
St. Lucia Kings had a surprising win. As they chased a tough target, they got off to a terrible start, losing their first four wickets for just 24 runs. Mayers shone again with the new ball, taking 2 wickets early on.
However, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Tim Seifert changed the game. Seifert was especially aggressive, scoring 64 off 27 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes before getting out in the 11th over, having done his job.
David Wiese added the final touches with 34 off 20 balls. Rajapaksa remained not out at 68 off 35 balls, leading St. Lucia Kings to a stunning victory in Basseterre. For the Patriots, Mayers and Nortje both took two wickets, but it wasn’t enough to win the match
