Pakistan’s cricket team captain, Shan Masood, didn’t have a good performance with the bat in the first Test against Bangladesh. After a long delay caused by rain and a wet field, the Test match finally started. Pakistan lost the toss and had to bat first, but the first day didn’t go as they had hoped.
Pakistan lost opener Abdullah Shafique early which led to Masood coming in at No. 3. He started off positively, but soon faced a controversial dismissal, putting his team in a tough spot.
On the last ball of the 7th over, Bangladesh bowler Masood delivered a ball that came back in from the offside. Shan Masood tried to defend it but seemed to miss the ball, which brushed against both the bat and his pad before going to the keeper. The umpire declared Masood out right away. Masood was not happy with the decision and argued with the umpire, who insisted he leave the field.
As he walked back to the dressing room, Masood was clearly upset about how he got out. After seeing the replay, he expressed his frustration to coach Jason Gillespie and continued to shout at the umpire, even from the dugout.
The ultra-edge technology showed a spike as the ball went past the bat and touched his pad, which made Masood confident he hadn’t nicked it. Masood scored only 6 runs off 11 balls, hitting one four. With his wicket, Pakistan lost their second player for just 14 runs.
Earlier Shan Masood acknowledged that the pitch would be challenging but emphasized their main goal is to take 20 wickets. He mentioned they aim to gain momentum by winning this home series and are eager to reach the final of the World Test Championship.
“We have communicated clearly with the players to reduce uncertainty. It’s a proud moment and a privilege to lead the team; nothing is guaranteed in sports, but it’s an exciting chance to aim for the WTC final,” he concluded.
