Something happened in the World Test Championship (WTC) final which started on 11 June 2025 at Lord’s Cricket Ground that left everyone’s eyes wide open.

South Africa’s wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne took such a catch to dismiss Australia’s star batsman Travis Head that there was silence in the stadium. It was not a catch, it was as if it was magic.
It was the first day of the match and South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Australia did not have a good start. Usman Khawaja, Cameron Green and Marnus Labuschagne returned to the pavilion in quick succession.
In such a situation, Travis Head came to the crease, who is famous for playing big innings in big matches.
Head had scored 163 runs against India in the 2023 WTC final and also played a brilliant innings of 137 runs in the World Cup final. But this time luck did not favor him.

Watch: How did Kyle Verrin send Head to the pavilion with one hand in WTC Final 2025?
In the 24th over, Marco Jensen bowled a full length ball towards the leg side. Head tried to flick it, but the ball just took the edge of his bat and went fast towards the wicketkeeper.
Then, Kyle Verrin dived to the right at lightning speed and caught the ball in the air with one hand. The catch was so great that Travis Head just returned to the pavilion smiling, but his disappointment was clearly visible.
Head scored 11 runs off 13 balls, including a four. With this wicket, Australia’s score became 67/4 and by lunch they were on the backfoot.
Verine’s catch was not just a wicket, but a moment that strengthened South Africa’s hopes of victory. His agility and reflexes showed why he is an important part of the Proteas team.

On the other hand, Steve Smith (26*) is holding on to the crease for Australia, but he will now have to shoulder a bigger responsibility.
Before the match, England legend Stuart Broad had said on Sky Sports that tall left-arm bowlers like Marco Jensen can be dangerous when the weather is cloudy.
And Jensen showed exactly that. This final is going to be even more exciting, so keep your eyes glued to the screen.
