Yashasvi Jaiswal is pinning his hopes on advancing his Test career by batting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, describing the experience as profoundly educational.
“It is an incredible experience whenever I go out and bat with him. He has shared his experiences with me. I think the way he controls the game and understands the wicket, it is spot on and there are a lot of things (to learn from him),” Jaiswal remarked on the eve of the Duleep Trophy.
He elaborated on the lessons learned from Rohit and explained that one can learn from him things like adjusting your batting to seaming or turning tracks or changing batting when a wicket or two fall.
Having completed a year in top-flight cricket, Jaiswal noted that he has become more aware of his own game over the past year. “Now, I can see a lot of scenarios and shift my game (accordingly) for the team and read the situations. I think these are very important for me in the last one year. When I was playing domestic cricket, I was not aware of many things.”
Since entering international cricket, Jaiswal has experienced significant improvement in communication and game reading. He expressed how his communication and the reading of the game have improved a lot since his international debut.
Jaiswal plans to utilize the Duleep Trophy as a training ground to sharpen his skills in preparation for the forthcoming two-match series against Bangladesh. He is working hard at nets ahead, first for the Duleep Trophy and then for the Bangladesh series.
The 22-year-old praised the new head coach Gautam Gambhir for his unwavering support for players, which he believes enables them to showcase their natural abilities.
“Yes, I have spoken with him during the Sri Lanka series. He really backed us saying just go out and play freely and enjoy the game and we will be with you. It gives us a lot of confidence and helps us to play fearlessly,” Jaiswal expressed his thoughts on Gambhir.
Since making his debut last year against the West Indies, Jaiswal has participated in nine Tests with Rohit and already established a successful partnership at the top, resulting in multiple century stands.
