Rohit Sharma has said goodbye to Test cricket and now the question in everyone’s mind is who will be the next captain of the Indian Test team.

Everyone’s hopes were pinned on fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, but Bumrah flatly refused! Yes, it is reported that Bumrah has pulled himself out of the race for Test captaincy.
Bumrah believes that he wants to prioritize his fitness and workload.
According to a report in Sky Sports News, Bumrah is not committed to playing all five matches of the upcoming Test series against England. This is the reason why he refused to take over the captaincy.
Bumrah has previously captained India in two Test matches in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Won in Perth, but lost in Sydney. Apart from this, he was also the captain in a Test against England in 2022, where India lost.
Captaincy Twist
Now the question arises that if not Bumrah, then who? According to reports, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are leading this race.
Sources are telling that Shubman Gill can be made the new captain of the Test team, while Rishabh Pant can play the role of vice-captain.
The Indian Test team and captain are going to be announced for the England tour in a press conference soon. Gill and Pant, both are young, passionate and strong players of leadership.
Fans and legends will always remember Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Sunil Gavaskar praised Rohit and said that his ‘Bambaiya Hindi’ and calm but strong style took the team to new heights.
Gavaskar wrote, “Under Rohit’s captaincy, India won many series, reached the finals thrice and became champions twice.”
Now all eyes are on Gill and Pant. Will this young pair carry forward Rohit’s legacy? Or will a surprise captain emerge?
