The IPL world is abuzz with discussions surrounding Sanju Samson’s trade. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who wants to leave Rajasthan Royals (RR) after seven seasons, was in talks with several teams.

A deal with Delhi Capitals (DC) was almost finalized, but things fell apart at the last minute.
Now, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has re-entered the fray, having already negotiated this deal months ago.
Why did the DC deal fall through?
According to a Times of India report, RR and DC had agreed to swap Sanju Samson and Tristan Stubbs.
But RR demanded an uncapped player along with Stubbs. They demanded DC’s Saleem Rizvi, whom they considered a major talent. DC refused to accept this offer.
The deal was so close that news reached DC’s senior players, and even some foreign stars were discussing it. But everything suddenly came to a halt. RR made a smart move and continued negotiations with other teams.
Now, old issues with CSK have heated up again. Reports suggest that RR attempted to negotiate Ravindra Jadeja with CSK on November 1st, but negotiations with DC were hot at the time, so they were put on the backburner.
Now, CSK has also spoken to Jadeja to learn about his future plans. CSK’s sharp administrator has been tasked with getting clarity from Jadeja.
This isn’t the first time RR and CSK have discussed Sanju, but this time the intent is clearer.
CSK’s Moves and the Dhoni Angle
CSK has not only put Jadeja on the table for the Sanju deal, but also players like Mathisha Pathirana and Sam Curran.
RR is looking to maximize their potential. The names of Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube also came up, but CSK rejected them.
Franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, “We are extremely hopeful that he (MS Dhoni) will be playing the next season.” However, if the Sanju deal goes through, there is talk of Dhoni’s lesser presence in the 2026 season.
This trade is currently fluid, meaning anything can happen. The next few days could bring clarity.
The DC deal has been canceled, and Sanju will either go to CSK or return to the auction pool. RR has kept its strategy clear to ensure the best deal.
These trades for IPL 2026 could change the strength of teams. The presence of a performer like Sanju would strengthen any lineup.
