Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur added 167 runs together brilliantly. But things got scary when Harmanpreet walked back to the pavilion. Jemimah Rodrigues felt pressure crushing her from all sides suddenly. She told Deepti Sharma, “I can’t do this”.

When Jemimah Rodrigues Doubted Herself During Historic Run-Chase

The Historic Run-Chase against seven-time champions Australia looked impossible midway through. Harmanpreet’s dismissal left Jemimah Rodrigues feeling completely alone out there. She panicked and confessed her fears to Deepti Sharma immediately.

“When I was inside and around 85, when I was batting, I was really tired. I had spoken to Deepti at that time. I told Deepti, ‘You know Deepu, please keep talking to me, I can’t do this’ Every single ball from there, Deepti was cheering and encouraging me.

“Every ball, she even sacrificed her wicket for my one run. And then she told me, when she was walking back, she was like, ‘Koi na, tu match khatam kar ke aa,’ Jemimah said.

How Deepti Sharma Helped Complete the Historic Run-Chase

Deepti Sharma knew exactly what words Jemimah Rodrigues needed to hear. She assured her that everyone believed in her abilities strongly. The partnership between them steadied India’s chase when it mattered.

Deepti Sharma’s calming presence changed everything for Jemimah Rodrigues completely. Other teammates also contributed crucial runs during the Historic Run-Chase. Everyone played their part in defeating mighty Australia at home.

“It wouldn’t be possible without partnerships; it wouldn’t be possible without special cameos that go unnoticed. But Deepti’s knock, Richa’s knock, Amanjot’s knock, took a lot of pressure off me.

“Of course, Harmanpreet and I had a great partnership, but in the past, it has always happened that one of us loses our wicket, and we go on to lose the match. But today, this Indian team changed that,” she added.
