Harmanpreet Kaur sounds pumped up ahead of the Women’s World Cup 2025 opener against Sri Lanka. India’s captain spoke about the team’s chances of lifting their first ODI trophy. The tournament starts on September 30 with India taking on Sri Lanka first.

Harmanpreet said there’s no extra pressure even though they’re playing at home. The skipper wants her girls to stay positive and just enjoy the moment. She feels the home crowd will push them forward rather than add any burden.

    Team’s Strength and Recent Form

India has been smashing it lately with several 300-plus scores in recent games. Both batting and bowling units look solid going into this big tournament now. Harmanpreet pointed out how the team has depth across all departments these days.

“We have a genuine chance. I’m not saying this just because we are playing at home. The amount of cricket we have played and the results we have achieved in the recent past show we have depth in our game, whether it’s in batting or bowling,” Harmanpreet said.

The preparation has been spot-on, and everyone seems ready for the challenge ahead. Consistent performances over the past months have built real confidence within the squad. This isn’t just talk – their recent results back up everything she’s saying.

“We have improved in a lot of areas. So the chances are there, but tomorrow is our first game, so the main focus is on starting well and setting the tone. That is something we are looking forward to,” she added.

Leading India in the ODI World Cup

This marks Harmanpreet’s first time captaining India in an ODI World Cup, finally. She’s led the T20 side for years, but this format feels special. The captain called it a dream come true after waiting so long.

“I have been leading for so many years, especially in T20 World Cups. This is my first opportunity to lead in ODIs. I do have experience of how things work in ICC events, but it was one of my dreams to lead my team in an ODI World Cup. So my team will give our best to win this World Cup,” she said.

“This World Cup is going to happen after 12 years, but there is no pressure at all. We have been preparing well, ticking all the boxes in practice games. We are very excited to play the World Cup at home. Nothing more we can ask for as cricketers,” she added.

Leading your country in a home World Cup doesn’t happen often for anyone. Harmanpreet wants to make every moment count in this Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign.

    Historic Opportunity for Women’s Cricket

India last hosted a women’s World Cup way back 12 years ago. Packed stadiums and loud fans will surely greet the team in every match. Harmanpreet believes this Women’s World Cup 2025 can create history for women’s cricket.

The opening game against Sri Lanka sets the tone for everything that follows. A strong start will give India momentum heading into tougher matches later on.
