WPL 2025 UPW vs DC After Match Statment
Annabel Sutherland is the Player of the Match.
Let’s hear from her: It’s nice getting a win.We did well to pull back in the bowling innings and get a manageable total and then chase it down. I think just reading the conditions helped a little bit–use the longer boundary from the top-end. I think Meg was going pretty well, then Kapp came in and I was hitting the ball really well, so I did not have to do too much at the other end. It always felt that we were ahead over the required rate. (On her bowling plan) I just try and find out what’s working as early as possible. It’s pretty tough for the bowlers at times but you got to execute and hit your lengths. Some times it’s your day, some times it isn’t.
Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals captain):
The close finishes are not easy. But let happy to be on the right side of it. (On batting) Yeah much better tonight. I feel like I was a lot more positive right through my first ball and my footwork allowing a few boundaries early on and it was nice to put some partnerships together. (On witnessing the chase from dugout) We were all under control. We had some world-class players out there in Annabel and Kappy. We have some good depth in the team so we felt like whoever’s out there would get us over the line. (On bowling) We were on to 200 with runs in the first six overs. The UP Warriorz batted exceptionally well at the start of the innings. We pulled them well as Annabel Sutherland bowled exceptionally well to take some wickets and we found that taking wickets throughout the middle overs is really important to slow the rate down. To keep it to 165 was an excellent effort. I think there are always areas to improve but I feel this was our best performance of the tournament so far, so it’s nice to keep improving.
Marizanne Kapp (Delhi Capitals):
Annabel Sutherland and I didn’t speak too much, we knew what we had to do and I’m happy that it came off! We were in a bit of trouble at the back end. But thankfully, Annabel batted through the phase to get things done. Credit to the team to chase down this total. I went a bit off with the ball to be honest, but the good about being an all-rounder is that you can always come back with the bat! I’m excited to see Meg Lanning back in form! The thing about a quality team is that no matter, what, it finds a way to win from different situations.
Deepti Sharma (UP Warriorz captain):
I think the total was alright. We did lose a few wickets after a good start, but still, it was a good one. We had trust over one another as a bowling unit. Spin worked well, pace too did well in patches. I wish we held on to our catches! But anyway, these happen sometimes. We fought hard in both games, but we need to be positive from here. We are playing well, we need to keep the spirits high.
