Delhi and Gujarat
First, let’s talk about Delhi Capitals, where the most surprising name was Australian captain Meg Lanning. Yes, the team even released its leader. Along with this, foreign players like Alice Capsey and Jess Jonassen were also released.
This move by Delhi clearly shows that the franchise now wants to move forward with a new team combination.
On the other hand, Gujarat Giants have also made significant changes. Laura Wolvaardt, the top run-scorer in the last World Cup, has been released.
Indian batters Harleen Deol and Dayalan Hemalatha are also included in the list. This move by the Giants clearly indicates their intention to build a new core team.
Mumbai, RCB, and UP Warriorz
Now, talking about Mumbai Indians, despite being the defending champions, this team has released several of its star players. Amelia Kerr, Yastika Bhatia, and Saika Ishaque will no longer be part of the team.
The team has also made significant changes to its foreign combination, with names like Shabnim Ismail and Nadine de Klerk being dropped.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has also lightened its squad. Players like England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Indian fast bowler Renuka Singh are no longer in the team.
RCB’s intention to build a balanced squad is clear and new faces can be given a chance.
But the biggest blow came from the UP Warriorz list. Deepti Sharma, who won the Player of the Tournament award in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, was released by the team.
Foreign players like Alyssa Healy, Sophie Ecclestone, and Tahlia McGrath are also included in the list.
UP Warriorz has retained only Shweta Sehrawat, which clearly indicates that the franchise is going to completely update itself.
Now that so many prominent players have been included in the Released Players List, the upcoming WPL 2026 Mega Auction will be very interesting.
Teams will once again enter the bidding war for names like Meg Lanning, Deepti Sharma, and Amelia Kerr among the released players.
