Porel faced charges under multiple non-bailable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These included sections relating to rape, criminal assault and intimidation allegedly.
Charges under the Information Technology Act were also cited by the investigating police. The complainant, described as a medical student, made these specific allegations against him. She alleged threats involving leaked private photographs during this ongoing relationship dispute.
Porel has consistently denied all allegations made against him throughout this process. His first bail attempt was reportedly rejected on August 14.
Calcutta High Court Grants Bail After Lengthy Process
The Calcutta High Court had earlier directed the police regarding evidence collection procedures. This included detaining Porel and seizing relevant electronic devices for investigation purposes.
The court also ordered that the complainant’s personal devices and privacy be protected carefully. This aimed at preventing the circulation of false information during this sensitive investigation.
The Calcutta High Court ultimately granted bail on Thursday, September 17. Porel was expected to be released from jail the following day.

Porel had been dropped from Bengal’s domestic squad following his initial arrest. His release could allow him to attempt a return to competitive cricket eventually.
