Cricket Australia unveiled the BBL 2026-27 Schedule with major changes. The tournament will finish by the end of Australia’s school holidays. The BBL Final is scheduled for Australia Day, January 26. The competition continues with the 44-match format from the previous season.
BBL 2026-27 Schedule Marks Historic First Overseas Match in Cricket
Chennai to host the season opener in a historic BBL moment. The Melbourne Renegades will play the Perth Scorchers in Chennai. The match venue is MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India. This marks the first time the BBL plays overseas.
BBL 2026-27 Schedule retains the 44-match format from last season. The finals system remains unchanged with the IPL-style playoff format. Eight teams will compete for four available finals spots there.
This is approximately 9000 kilometres from Melbourne to Chennai, India. The first match of the entire BBL history in Chennai. Cricket Australia is planning a major shift away from regional cricket venues.

Christmas Eve and Australia Day Matches Return to BBL
Christmas Eve cricket returns after disappearing from the schedule previously. The Melbourne Renegades will play the Hobart Hurricanes on December 24. Junction Oval fixture scheduled for Christmas Eve cricket match there.
Hobart Hurricanes hosted multiple Christmas Eve matches previously. Australia Day cricket returns to the BBL 2026-27 fixture completely. Australia Day was a long-standing BBL tradition before the COVID pandemic.
Cricket Australia will not introduce any Christmas Day cricket matches. Australia Day matches were last played in the 2022 cricket season. Double-headers are scheduled for Boxing Day and New Year’s Day matches. The final weekend of the regular season will also have double-headers there.
Venue Changes and Match Scheduling for the Upcoming BBL Season
Brisbane Heat will play all home matches at the Gabba Stadium. Perth Scorchers play every home game at Optus Stadium. Adelaide Strikers play all home matches at Adelaide Oval. Sydney Thunder is playing two home matches at Manuka Oval.
Sydney Sixers host Adelaide Strikers at Manuka Oval in a cricket match. Junction Oval will host three BBL 2026-27 fixture matches in total. Melbourne Renegades split five home matches across different venue locations.
Gold Coast’s People First Stadium is hosting no matches this season. BBL matches are scheduled from December 12 onwards. The group matches end on January 17, 2027.
