BCCI secretary Jay Shah has announced a new and exciting scheme for players in domestic cricket. Under this initiative, the Board has increased the prize money for domestic cricket tournaments, which will further incentivise the players for their outstanding performance.
Last year, the BCCI had increased the prize money for the Ranji Trophy winners from Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore. The runners-up will get Rs 3 crore and the losing semi-finalists Rs 1 crore.
Along with this, the prize money of Irani Cup, Duleep Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, Deodhar Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has also been increased.
BCCI announces prize money in domestic cricket
Now, the BCCI has planned to give even more attractive incentives to the players of domestic cricket. Jay Shah on Monday announced that prize money will also be introduced for ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Tournament’ in all women’s and junior cricket tournaments.
Apart from this, the best player in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will also get the award.
“We are introducing prize money for Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all women’s and junior cricket tournaments under our domestic cricket programme.”
Explaining the objective of the initiative, Shah said the move will be an important step towards recognising and rewarding the best performances in the domestic circuit. He also thanked the BCCI Apex Council for supporting the initiative.
However, there is also talk of Shah moving from the post of BCCI secretary to the post of ICC president. According to reports, he is a potential candidate to replace Greg Barclay. A final decision on the matter is due by August 27.
If Shah applies for the post, he is likely to be elected unopposed. In such a situation, DDCA President Rohan Jaitley is being considered as a leading candidate for the post of BCCI Secretary.
