A big financial decision has just reached the world of Indian cricket. It aims to solve a problem that fans have noticed for months.

What The BCCI Has Decided
BCCI’s ₹127 Crore response marks a major step for player fitness. The board has raised the annual budget of its Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The budget has grown from ₹92 crore to ₹127 crore.
That is a big increase of ₹35 crore for the centre. The board wants to manage injuries better and keep players ready before the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Why Team India’s Injury Crisis Worries Everyone
Team India’s injury crisis has grown over the past year. The centre reportedly treated 32 leading Indian men’s cricketers during this period. Overall, 68 male and female players received treatment at the centre in 20 months.
Visits to the facility increased after the IPL 2026 season ended. Coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill have reportedly raised concerns about these frequent injuries.
Several famous names have used the Bengaluru facility for rehabilitation. Rohit Sharma visited earlier in 2026 to recover from a hamstring injury. Virat Kohli also visited the rehabilitation centre for the first time this year.
Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy are regular visitors too. Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna also visit the centre often.
Most cases involved soft-tissue injuries affecting muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Rishabh Pant suffered an impact injury after fracturing his foot in Manchester.
New Leadership For Sports Science
The BCCI has invited applications for a full-time head of Sports Science and Medicine. This person will improve the medical and fitness work at the centre for all players.
Until then, Dhananjay Kaushik will continue to manage sports science operations. He will work under the supervision of centre head VVS Laxman. This step is part of BCCI’s ₹127 Crore response to the problem.
Former batter Wasim Jaffer wants Mohammed Shami back in India’s Test and ODI sides. He also backs Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah as the main fast bowlers for India.
Jaffer warned that continued exclusion could end Shami’s international career. The 2027 World Cup makes fitness even more important for India and its coaches. Fans now hope that BCCI’s ₹127 Crore response brings long-term results.
