Indian cricket team coach Gautam Gambhir has slammed young fast bowler Harshit Rana for being the target of online trolling. Gambhir called it “shameful” and said that targeting a 23-year-old player is wrong.
The controversy began when former cricketer Kris Srikkanth took a dig at Rana’s selection for the Australia tour.
Gambhir clearly stated that if anyone wants to question him, they should question him, not the young player.

“Shameful” Trolling of Young Talent
Gambhir said in a press conference after the Test series win against the West Indies in Delhi, “It’s shameful. YouTubers are targeting a 23-year-old kid. If you want to target someone, target me.”
He stated that unaccountable comments on YouTube and social media are harming young players.
The controversy surrounding Rana escalated when Srikkanth jokingly said on his YouTube show, “Rana is Gambhir’s favorite player,” and his name was selected first, after Shubman Gill.
This comment caused a stir on social media, with many users mocking Rana’s selection.
Support from Gambhir and Chopra
Gambhir not only defended Rana but also said that critics should show courage and target the coach.
He said, “If they want to question something, question me. Don’t go after a 23-year-old kid trying to make his place in international cricket.”
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra also supported Rana.
Chopra said, “People are trolling this child. It’s not his fault that he’s being selected in every squad.”
He appealed to fans and the media not to blame the player for the selectors’ decisions.
Harshit Rana, a Delhi native, performed brilliantly for the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. His aggressive bowling and ability caught everyone’s attention. Gambhir praised his hard work and passion.
Rana has been selected in the ODI and T20 squads for the Australia tour, and he is ready to seize this opportunity.
Gambhir says it’s important to support young players so they can give their best without fear.
