The BCCI has stripped Rohit Sharma of the captaincy, even though the Hitman has made up his mind to play till the 2027 World Cup.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill, who is currently the captain of the Test team, is now going to take over the command of ODIs as well.

This news has come from a report by RevSportz, where it was clearly stated that the decision to make Gill the ODI captain is confirmed, only the announcement is pending.
Rohit Sharma, who has retired from T20 and Tests, is playing only ODIs. But by 2027 he will be 40, and the BCCI wants to prepare a new leader.
The report reads: “Moving forward, Gill is definitely going to be next ODI captain after Rohit (even if retires before 2027).”
Rohit has expressed his desire to play the World Cup, but the BCCI says that this decision is not just of the player, but also of the board.
According to the Hindustan Times report, Rohit and Virat Kohli will be selected in the India A team for the Australia A series, where Shreyas Iyer will be the captain.
Both these stars have been away from international cricket for 6 months, and are focusing on fitness tests.
Big twist in captaincy
Shubman Gill’s entry is amazing. He gave a brilliant performance in the Test series against England, and got the team to a draw.
Now he will lead in ODIs as well, and probably take over from Suryakumar Yadav in T20.
The report says: “Shubman Gill gets the nod to become India’s all-format captain replacing Rohit, Surya: ‘The selectors had a discussion’.”
The old formula of BCCI “one captain for all formats” is being adopted again. Gill’s age, form and leadership are all top class.
But what about Rohit and Virat? Questions are being raised on the ODI career of both the veterans. BCCI wants to give a new shape to the team before the 2027 World Cup.
RevSportz’s report reads: “He will get ODI captaincy: Kaif backs Shubman Gill to replace Rohit Sharma soon.”
This is a difficult time for Rohit, but changes keep happening in cricket.
