BCCI basically made a new rule for IPL 2026. They banned smart sunglasses completely from restricted areas. These aren’t regular glasses you wear outside. They’re high-tech devices basically with cameras. The devices can make video calls and send messages. They can even record video and audio. That’s why BCCI got really worried.

The rule affects the Players and Match Officials Area. That’s the PMOA zone in cricket terms. Nobody can wear smart goggles inside that area. They have to give them to security before entering. It’s the same rule as mobile phones. Smartwatches also have to be deposited. Everything goes with the Security Liaison Officer.

The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit made this rule. These devices are classified as communication tools. They’re also recording devices which is dangerous. BCCI treats them like mobile phones essentially. That’s how seriously they take this matter.

Why Smart Sunglasses Are Actually Dangerous

Smart sunglasses seem innocent honestly. But they’re way more powerful than regular glasses. They connect to the internet through Wi-Fi. They can send text messages really easily. Players can make audio and video calls. Live streaming is possible through these devices. That opens huge security risks basically.

Imagine a player wearing these inside the dugout. He could record the team strategy easily, or he could call someone outside the ground. Information about the match could leak out. Match fixers might try contacting players. The whole integrity of the game suffers. That’s why BCCI got serious about this.

It’s not paranoia from BCCI honestly. These devices are becoming more popular. Players and support staff were buying them. Some thought they could use them secretly. BCCI had to act before problems started. Prevention is better than dealing with scandals later.

Past Incident That Sparked This Decision

Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder got fined badly. He used a mobile phone inside the dugout. That was a big security breach basically. He got punished heavily for that mistake. Everyone learned a lesson from that incident.

Now, BCCI is taking extra precautions. Smart glasses are the next threat basically. Before anyone could sneak them in. Now there’s an official ban in place. It protects the tournament and all teams.

“Kindly note that these devices are equipped with advanced communication features, including live streaming, sending and receiving text messages, as well as audio and video calling capabilities through mobile data or Wi-Fi networks.”

“It is hereby notified that the possession and/or use of “Smart Goggles” is strictly prohibited within the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA),” BCCI stated.

    What Players Must Do Now

Players need to understand this rule clearly. Smart eyewear gets confiscated at the gate. You don’t get warned multiple times. It’s automatic confiscation basically. Just like mobile phones and smartwatches. Everything goes into secure custody.

This applies to all IPL matches currently. Rajasthan vs Gujarat Qualifier 2 included. Also applies to the final match. RCB will face either GT or RR. All these matches follow the same rules. Nobody gets special treatment basically.

The advisory emphasizes security seriously. These aren’t ordinary sunglasses for fashion. They’re advanced tech devices really. They could compromise match integrity badly. BCCI has to protect the tournament. All players must cooperate with this rule honestly.
