Fakhar Zaman had a moment he’d probably like to forget. The experienced Pakistan opener got into an argument with the umpire during a big match. Now the ICC has punished him with a penalty for his behaviour. He’s been fined and got demerit points added to his name too.

What Actually Went Down on the Field?
Things got heated in the 19th over of the T20I Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka. Fakhar Zaman didn’t agree with a decision that got him out. Instead of walking off quietly, he went straight to the umpire to argue.
You could see the anger on his face during the whole drama. He stood there discussing the call with the match officials for some time. Everyone watching knew this wouldn’t end well for him. The umpires noted everything down and reported it after the game.
ICC Hands Out the Punishment
The match referee Reon King looked at all the reports carefully. Officials from the game sent in their notes about what happened. The ICC then found Fakhar Zaman guilty under Article 2.8 of their Code of Conduct.
“Zaman was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.” One demerit point has been added to Zaman’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offense in a 24-month period,” ICC said.
Zaman lost 10% of his match fee straight away. That’s money coming out of his pocket for losing his temper. He also picked up one demerit point on his disciplinary record now.
This marks his first offence in two years, which is actually not too bad. But he needs to be careful going forward. More demerit points mean bigger punishments and possible bans from matches.
Pakistan Still Came Out on Top
Pakistan won the match anyway. All that drama with Fakhar Zaman didn’t stop the team from playing well. They beat Sri Lanka pretty easily in the final. Sri Lanka managed to score only 115 runs.
Mohammad Nawaz and Shaheen Afridi picked 3 wickets each. Sri Lankan batters had no clue to their bowling. Pakistan chased the small total down like it was a practice session.
