Marnus Labuschagne talked about Test cricket’s future. The Australian batsman thinks three countries are saving Test cricket. He believes India, Australia, and England keep this format alive today.

Labuschagne knows other countries are struggling with Test cricket right now. Many teams can’t afford to play long format matches anymore. T20 leagues pay players much better money than Test cricket.
The star batsman wants all cricket nations to help save Tests. He thinks every country must produce good Test players regularly. This will keep the traditional format interesting for cricket fans.

Why Some Countries Can’t Play Enough Tests
Money problems affect many cricket boards around the world these days. South Africa reached the WTC final but won’t host Tests at home. They simply can’t afford to organize Test matches in 2025.
T20 leagues offer cricketers huge salaries for just a few weeks of work. Test cricket requires months of commitment for much less money. Many players choose franchise cricket over representing their countries now.
“Every time Test cricket is on, people want to watch it. India, Australia, and England are probably carrying a bit of a load of Test cricket, but we really want to see all the countries keep producing great players and being part of upholding such an amazing tradition of Test cricket,” Marnus said.
Countries like West Indies and Sri Lanka face similar money troubles. Their best players often skip Test matches for T20 tournaments. This weakens their national teams in the long format completely.

India, Australia, and England have much stronger cricket boards financially. They can pay their players well for Test cricket. These countries also have rich broadcasting deals and sponsorship agreements.
Their domestic competitors like IPL, BBL, and Hundred generate massive revenues. This money helps them support Test cricket alongside T20 leagues. Other countries don’t have such strong financial backing available.
What Labuschagne Thinks About the WTC
Labuschagne really likes the World Test Championship format a lot. He says it gives meaning to every Test match played. Teams now fight for points to reach the WTC final.
Before WTC, many Test series felt meaningless to cricket fans. Now every match matters for the championship table rankings. This has made Test cricket more exciting than before.
