Moises Henriques officially switched allegiances completely now. Portugal is his birth country. Henriques played for Australia previously in 44 international matches. Last played international cricket in 2021.

“I guess the opportunity for growth in the game around the world, it’s probably not just my Portuguese heritage, but the game, more importantly, and the opportunity for growth worldwide,” Henriques said.
“We can improve the quality of all the engagement in, say, another 10 or 20 nations around the world, and then you’re looking at cricket World Cups that stop the entire world, as opposed to a couple of Western countries and the subcontinent,” he added.
Eligibility and ICC Stand-down Period Completed
Moises Henriques completed the stand-down period required. ICC rules are very strict about a 3-year mandatory wait for switching from a Full Member nation to associate nations. Henriques waited three years and is now eligible to represent Portugal. Joe Burns did a similar thing as the former Australia opener switched to Italy.
Portuguese heritage makes him eligible. He completed all ICC requirements needed and can now play for Portugal. Henriques fully meets the criteria. No eligibility issues remain, as Portugal accepted his application fully.
