Amazing cricket history happened in Bulawayo in the ZIM vs SA test! Wiaan Mulder’s historic triple century shocked the cricket world completely. The South African captain scored 300 runs in his very first Test as leader. Nobody has ever done this before in cricket history.

Mulder played against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club on Day 2. No captain in cricket history has ever done what Mulder just did. He scored 300 runs in his first match as leader. This puts him in the cricket history books forever. The young batter shattered records left and right with this knock.
Youngest Captain to Score Triple Century
Here’s what makes this even more special – Mulder is just 27 years old. He was exactly 27 years and 138 days old when he reached 300 runs. This broke Bob Simpson’s old record from many years ago.
The South African star reached his 300 runs in just 297 balls faced. This makes it the second-fastest triple-century in Test cricket history ever. Only Virender Sehwag scored 300 runs faster than Mulder did.
Sehwag needed just 278 balls to reach his triple century back then. But Mulder’s achievement is still absolutely incredible for cricket fans worldwide.

His innings also beat Graeme Smith’s previous South African captain record. Smith had scored 277 runs as South Africa’s captain before this match.
Breaking Multiple Records in One Innings
Wiaan Mulder’s historic triple century broke Graham Dowling’s captain debut record too. Dowling had scored 239 runs on his captaincy debut in 1969. Mulder easily passed this milestone during his incredible batting performance.
This was Mulder’s 21st Test match for South Africa nationally. He became only the second South African to score a Test triple century. Hashim Amla was the first South African to achieve this milestone.
Mulder also joined a very special group of South African captains. He became the third captain to score a century on debut. Herbie Taylor and Jackie McGlew were the other two captains before him.
Team Partnership Saves South Africa
South Africa started very poorly in their first innings against Zimbabwe. The team was struggling badly when Mulder came to bat. He partnered with David Bedingham to rescue the team from trouble.
Their partnership helped South Africa cross 200 runs in the innings. This was Mulder’s third Test century and his first 150-plus score. The captain showed great responsibility during this important partnership.
