Big teams sometimes need a fresh start, even after years of success. CSK has now rebuilt its support team from top to bottom. Meet the people who will guide the squad.
Chennai Super Kings Coaching Staff List for IPL 2027
CSK have named four new coaches to help the team bounce back. These changes aim to help the five-time champions recover from tough recent seasons. Zaheer Khan is the new head coach and Mohit Sharma is the bowling coach.
Albie Morkel and Gareth Batty will work as assistant coaches. Sridharan Sriram stays as assistant bowling coach and James Foster stays as fielding coach.
Zaheer Khan replaces Stephen Fleming, who served as head coach for 16 years. Zaheer worked before as director of cricket for Mumbai Indians. He also held a leadership role with Lucknow Super Giants. Zaheer’s wide experience should help the team plan better for the new season.
Mohit Sharma returns to CSK after playing for the franchise before. He won the 2014 Purple Cap by taking 23 wickets in 16 matches.

Morkel and Batty in the Support Group
Albie Morkel played for CSK from 2008 to 2013 as a South African all-rounder. He helped the team win the IPL titles in 2010 and 2011.
Gareth Batty is a former England spinner who coached Surrey to three straight County Championship titles. Together, these coaches bring strong playing and coaching experience to the club.
This setup gives each coach a clear job from bowling plans to sharp fielding. Keeping two coaches in place gives the group some stability.
Why CSK Made These Changes
CSK won five titles but they missed the playoffs three seasons in a row. Their last title came in 2023 and they finished eighth in 2026.
The club hopes this Chennai Super Kings coaching staff list will fix its approach. A rebuilt coaching group often helps a team find new energy. Next, CSK will focus on squad plans before the IPL 2027 mini-auction on December 16, 2026.
