WPL 2025 DC vs MI Women, After Match Statement
Jess Jonassen is ths Player of the Match, here is what she had to say:
Yeah look it is a bit of a shock to be out there. I think the skipper should be out there. I knew getting the ball outside the powerplay, I will be able to put some powerplay. Our bowlers were fantastic in the powerplay.
Yeah I mean I am happy to hang onto the caught and bowled. Nice to get the wickets but knowing our whole bowling group did so well and set it up for us meant a lot. Minnu was incredible. She is an exceptionally talented bowler. Had a few chats with here, she came back in the next two overs and was incredible. The way Meg and Shafali went through the powerplay was pretty cool.
Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals Women captain):
Yeah that’s pretty close. We tried to put all three facets together. We certainly did that today. We brought some great energy. Shikha did extremely well in the powerplay. Comeback tomorrow and do the same. Maybe we were a tad short in the first over and then we had to adjust.
Then Kappi and Shikha did that really well. Minu Manni took a couple of crucial wickets for us. She is a wicket taking bowler and can turn the ball when she wants. One of the finest local talents. That was an incredible catch from Sutherland. Same as normal. When you have Shafali at the other end, it makes things easier. Yeah lot of fun, was a great battle with Ismail. She is a great competitor. Those bouncers really played really good.
Jemimah Rodrigues (Delhi Capitals):
We needed this win, we haven’t been playing our best cricket and have somehow managed to get over the line but happy to get this win. Sutherland’s catch, Minnu’s stop in the middle, everything fell into place and it felt like we were back. (Thoughts during the chase) Just keep going, but Meg and Shifu have a tremendous understanding of their game.
With Meg on the opposite side, she tells Shifu to keep hitting straight. (On celebrating after taking the catch) I don’t think the WPL season is over without a floss but it was the crowd that prompted it. Loved watching the celebration, it looked very cute
Harmanpreet Kaur (captain, Mumbai Indians):
I think today was one of the days when nothing went as per plan. We weren’t able to hit the good length areas that we discussed during the innings break. We got some rhythm in the middle but then lost our way. 120 is not a good total and we were 30-40 runs in the game. We are still in a good position, I would like to tell them to forget this day and look forward to the other game. We will perform well in those games and take momentum from there on
