The International Cricket Council (ICC) has a tricky puzzle regarding the Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament has been mired in a major conundrum over the last few days as a complex political equation between India and Pakistan has come in its way.
However, the ICC is yet to take a final call on the schedule and financial issues of the tournament.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025: The mid-way between India’s challenge on hosting in Pakistan
The 2025 Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February-March. But here’s the big problem… The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to play in Pakistan.
The BCCI wants to play the tournament in a hybrid model citing security concerns. This means that some matches will be played in Dubai and some in Pakistan.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was initially not considering this hybrid model. But now they are ready to make a deal. They have agreed that a similar model will be in place for tournaments in India till 2031.
However, the PCB officials are secretly holding talks with the ICC representatives in Dubai. Officers like Salman Naseer and Sumair Syed are trying to solve this equation.
Their aim is to find a solution between India and Pakistan that satisfies the cricket boards of both countries.
Cricket analyst Aakash Chopra opinion on this issue
“The hybrid model is the only way,” he said. He believes that if some matches are played in Dubai, Pakistan may suffer a little from tourism. But if India reach the final, it will be a different story altogether.
The PCB also fears serious consequences if they pull out of the tournament. So, the Mohsin Naqvi-led board is trying to take a sensible decision.
The ICC has not yet announced the official schedule. All eyes are on whether the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will become a landmark event or get caught in a political maelstrom.
