The tour is contingent upon approval from the Indian government. Let’s understand how India may delay Afghanistan series completely.

India and Bangladesh in Advanced Tour Discussions

India and Bangladesh are in advanced discussions to revive their series. The bilateral cricket series was postponed earlier. If finalized, the tour may require India to postpone the scheduled T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi.

Officials from the BCCI and BCB reportedly met during the ICC meetings in London to discuss the tour schedule. According to a BCCI source quoted by Times of India the BCB prefers hosting all matches at only two venues.

“BCB is also fine with the idea of holding all matches at one venue. They ideally prefer three T20Is at one venue and three ODIs in another. Dhaka and Chattogram are the leading venues. Playing just one format was a possibility too. The two boards held discussions on the sidelines of the recent ICC meet in London,” TOI revealed a BCCI source as saying.

This is to simplify logistics and operational arrangements for both sides. The ideal plan involves three T20 Internationals at one venue and three One Day Internationals at another venue. Dhaka and Chattogram are the preferred host cities there.

Diplomatic Tensions and Past Cricket Relations Challenges

India had originally been scheduled to tour Bangladesh. The series was postponed because of diplomatic tensions between the countries. Bilateral cricket relations further deteriorated after a major incident.

Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman before IPL 2026. This affected the Bangladesh Cricket Board and their relations with BCCI. The Bangladesh Cricket Board had earlier requested the ICC to relocate its T20 World Cup matches from an Indian venue.

This was over security concerns that were raised by BCB officially. The ICC rejected the BCB’s request for relocation. Bangladesh was subsequently replaced by Scotland in the tournament. These tensions affected bilateral relations between both cricket boards.

Government Clearance and Final Approval Requirements

Government clearance remains the final and most significant requirement. The tour can be officially confirmed only after approval. India’s existing commitment to an Afghanistan series is one of the major scheduling obstacles that need resolution.

The boards also discussed the possibility of playing only one format if scheduling becomes difficult for both cricket boards. Recent developments indicate improving relations between BCCI and BCB.

Officials are working toward restoring bilateral cricketing ties. India may delay Afghanistan series for the Bangladesh tour completely. The effort shows both boards want better relations now.
