Following a significant victory for his team, the Punjab Kings, in IPL 2026, Shreyas Iyer delivered a special message.

He explicitly told the young players that there is no need to copy anyone.
His chemistry with the team’s openers, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya is now clearly visible on the field, emerging as a major factor behind the team’s consistently strong performance.
Team Bonding Strengthens PBKS
In a post-match interaction, Shreyas Iyer emphasized the importance of the team environment.
He explained that the team spends time together, which fosters mutual understanding and trust. He stated:
“We have a team room, which is probably there for every team. We try to spend a lot of time together in that team room before and after games, and whenever we have off days. We come together and build that bond.”
Iyer believes that this very bonding helps the players express themselves freely on the field.
In particular, young players like Prabhsimran and Priyansh Arya are consistently excelling within this supportive atmosphere.
‘Be Yourself’ – Iyer’s Message
Iyer offered his young players a crucial piece of advice: to carve out their own unique identities.
He stated in no uncertain terms:
“Whenever I speak to them, my only message is, just be yourself. Don’t try to emulate, mimic, or be someone else.”
He further added:
“When you are playing at this level and you are fearless and flamboyant in your own way, you don’t have to resemble or copy anyone. When you tell these guys that they are match-winners, both Prabhsimran and Priyansh Arya—it instills confidence in them.”
The impact of this philosophy is evident, as both players are playing match-winning innings for the team.
Iyer also heaped praise on young batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He remarked: “He is a spectacular talent, and all the adjectives would be pretty less for him. The way he has that bat flow, the rhythm and momentum he creates before the delivery, I think he is one for the future.”
Eyes on the IPL Trophy: Winning is the Sole Goal
Shreyas Iyer has made it clear that his entire focus is on winning the IPL. He stated:
“Whenever I play in any tournament, I play to win. For me, winning is everything; there is no substitute.”
He further added:
“For this year, the manifestation is to win the IPL. I just want to put it out there in the universe that I want to lift the trophy.”
According to Iyer, achieving this goal requires the entire team to think and work together in unison.
He believes that it is the small steps that ultimately lead a team to great heights, and it is with this very approach that Punjab Kings are moving forward this season.
