KKR had to make a big change in their squad today. Matheesha Pathirana is done for the season. He picked up a hamstring injury that’s pretty serious. The Sri Lankan pacer won’t be playing anymore this year.

Pathirana cost KKR 18 crore rupees at the auction. They were really counting on him. But he missed most of the season dealing with rehab issues. Then he came back and played for like 8 balls. Got injured right after that against Gujarat. Now he’s completely ruled out.
So KKR brought in Luvnith Sisodia to replace him. Sisodia is a wicket-keeper batter. He’s played for Bangalore and KKR before. He can bat and keep wickets which makes him useful. The team needed someone who could fill multiple roles.
Who Is Luvnith Sisodia?
Luvnith Sisodia comes from Bangalore originally. He’s kept wickets in domestic cricket. The guy has experience playing for big teams. RCB had him earlier in his career. KKR also knows him from before.
He’s not a star player honestly. But he’s solid enough for backup situations. Can bat in the middle order. Can keep wickets if needed. That’s what KKR needed right now. Someone reliable who won’t panic under pressure.
The team sees him as a flexible player. He can bat at different positions. The gloveman role was vacant with Raghuvanshi gone. Sisodia fills that gap nicely. He brings depth to the squad.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi Also Out for Season
But wait there’s more bad news for KKR. Angkrish Raghuvanshi is also ruled out for the season. He got injured playing against the Mumbai Indians. The young guy won’t be back this year either.
This puts KKR in a tight spot honestly. They’re missing two key players suddenly. For the Delhi match coming up, they need a keeper. Manish Pandey might play instead. Or maybe Tejasvi Dahiya gets a chance.
Sisodia could also play as a keeper if needed. Finn Allen is another option but hasn’t kept well recently. So KKR has several choices now. But losing two players at once hurts badly.
KKR’s Playoff Hope Is Slim Now
KKR is currently sitting 6th on the table. They have 13 points which is not great. But they’ve won 5 of their last 6 matches. So they’re showing some form finally. The team believes they can still make the playoffs.
For that to happen though, many things need to go right. The Rajasthan Royals have to lose to Mumbai. Then, KKR needs a massive win over Delhi. They need to win by around 76 runs. That’s a huge margin to pull off.
Or they chase Delhi’s total in 12 overs. Either way it’s tough odds. But cricket is unpredictable sometimes. KKR still has a chance mathematically. They just need everything to click now.
