Delhi Capitals desperately need a turnaround after their disastrous recent performances. The franchise is in trouble with playoff qualification looking increasingly difficult. Their biggest overseas signing hasn’t played a single match yet this season.

Why Mitchell Starc Hasn’t Played Any IPL 2026 Matches Yet
Mitchell Starc has been completely absent from the Delhi Capitals’ campaign so far frustratingly. Shoulder and elbow injuries kept him away from the entire first half. Those persistent problems prevented him from joining the squad earlier in April.
Cricket Australia had him undergo strict fitness protocols before releasing him for IPL. The Australian board wouldn’t clear him until they felt absolutely certain about recovery. DC waited patiently while their expensive recruit worked on rehabilitation back home.
He finally joined the DC squad just last week after passing tests. Training sessions began immediately to gradually regain match fitness and rhythm. However, he surprisingly didn’t play against RCB in their previous encounter.
DC’s Terrible Form Makes Mitchell Starc’s Return Crucial
Delhi Capitals have won only three matches from eight games played currently. Their last two defeats were absolutely humiliating for everyone associated with them. RCB bowled them out for a pathetic 75 runs in one match.
Then Punjab Kings demolished them despite DC posting 264/2 batting first impressively. Losing after scoring that many runs shows serious bowling and fielding issues. The team desperately needs Mitchell Starc’s experience and quality pace bowling now.
DC bowling coach Munaf Patel spoke before the match today at the conference. He confirmed Mitchell Starc is completely fit and available for RR vs DC. The final decision rests with team management about his inclusion though.
Will Mitchell Starc Play the Match Today Against RR?
DC Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao gave important clarity after the PBKS loss. Cricket Australia officially cleared Mitchell Starc from May 1 onwards for IPL duties. That makes him unavailable for RCB but perfectly available for today’s game.
The RR vs DC clash happens at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur tonight. Rajasthan will test DC’s struggling bowling attack severely without mercy shown. Mitchell Starc’s powerplay bowling would strengthen their attack tremendously if selected.
Munaf Patel mentioned minimal squad changes unless injuries occur between matches. But DC’s desperate situation might force them to play their star recruit. His left-arm pace adds variety they’ve badly missed all season long.
Given everything – fitness confirmation, availability clearance, and DC’s struggles – Mitchell Starc will almost certainly play. The team needs his class desperately to salvage their playoff hopes.
