During IPL 2026, a moment unfolded at the Lucknow stadium that sparked a debate overshadowing the match itself.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ young batsman, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, being dismissed for ‘obstructing the field’ has emerged as the most controversial decision of the season.
How Did the Controversy Unfold?
The incident occurred off a delivery by Prince Yadav, when Raghuvanshi played a soft shot and attempted to take a run.
While turning back halfway through his run, he executed a dive; at that very moment, a throw from the field struck him directly. Following this, Mohammed Shami made a vehement appeal.
After reviewing the replays, the third umpire ruled that Raghuvanshi had deliberately altered his running line, leading to his dismissal for ‘obstructing the field.’
Visible frustration was evident in the KKR dugout following this decision. Raghuvanshi, too, appeared visibly furious; as he made his way back to the pavilion, he slammed his bat into the ground and even threw his helmet in anger.
Only the Fourth Such Dismissal in IPL History
This marks only the fourth instance in the history of the IPL where a batsman has been dismissed for ‘obstructing the field.’
Prior to this, Yusuf Pathan (2013), Amit Mishra (2019), and Ravindra Jadeja (2024) have been dismissed in this manner.
Raghuvanshi scored just 9 runs in this match, yet his dismissal proved to be the turning point of the game.
Speaking of the match itself, KKR had already endured a poor start, and this wicket placed the team under even greater pressure.
Conversely, the Lucknow Super Giants capitalized fully on this opportunity and tightened their grip on the match.
Given that both teams were already struggling in the points table, this contest held immense significance.
Raghuvanshi’s controversial dismissal continues to remain a constant topic of discussion among cricket experts and across social media platforms.
