In an IPL 2026 match played at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, Punjab Kings defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 7 wickets in spectacular fashion.
Chasing a massive target of 197 runs, PBKS wrapped up the match in just 18 overs.
Captain Shreyas Iyer played a blistering innings, smashing an unbeaten 101 runs and rendering the Lucknow bowlers completely ineffective.
LSG Batsmen Post a Big Total
Batting first, LSG posted a score of 196/6 in their allotted 20 overs. The team got off to a poor start, losing early wickets in quick succession.
However, Josh Inglis steadied the innings with a magnificent knock of 72 runs off just 44 balls. His innings featured 9 fours and 2 sixes.
Ayush Badoni also injected momentum into the match, scoring 43 runs off a mere 18 deliveries.
Meanwhile, Abdul Samad played an unbeaten cameo of 37 runs in the final overs. Captain Rishabh Pant contributed 26 runs, though his innings lacked significant pace.
For Punjab, Yuzvendra Chahal emerged as the most successful bowler, claiming 2 wickets for just 25 runs in his 4 overs. Marco Jansen also picked up 2 wickets.
Shreyas Iyer Turns the Match Single-Handedly
Setting out to chase the target of 197 runs, Punjab Kings endured a disastrous start. Priyansh Arya was dismissed on the very first ball of the innings.
Subsequently, Prabhsimran Singh and Cooper Connolly stabilized the team’s innings by scoring runs at a brisk pace. Prabhsimran played a brilliant knock of 69 runs off 39 balls.
However, the real star of the show was Captain Shreyas Iyer. He scored an unbeaten 101 runs off just 51 deliveries.
During his innings, Iyer struck 11 fours and 5 towering sixes. The LSG bowlers appeared completely helpless in the face of his aggressive batting display.
Mohammad Shami certainly claimed the first two wickets, but thereafter, the Punjab batsmen took complete control of the match.
Arjun Tendulkar picked up one wicket, while the remaining bowlers proved to be quite expensive.
With this victory, Punjab Kings have sent a strong message regarding their prowess in IPL 2026.
Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants suffered a crushing defeat on their home ground.
